Foreman → Superintendent

Foreman to Superintendent pathway program image

The Foreman to Superintendent Pathway is a structured development track designed to prepare high-performing Foremen for the next step in their leadership journey. Developed by Ace Electric's most experienced Superintendents and divisional leaders, this pathway equips emerging field leaders with the operational, technical, and leadership skills required to manage complex projects and lead multiple crews with excellence.

Participants are selected by their division leadership and paired with a veteran Superintendent who will mentor, guide, and support their growth throughout the program. Every element of the pathway is intentional, hands-on, and aligned with Ace Electric's operational excellence standards and Must Win Battles.

Program Purpose

This pathway prepares Foremen to:

  • Lead multiple crews across larger, more complex job sites
  • Manage schedules, budgets, materials, and manpower
  • Own planning, preconstruction, and workflow execution
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, inspectors, and field teams
  • Model Ace Electric's safety culture, values, and leadership expectations

Program Structure

The Foreman to Superintendent Pathway follows the four-pillared framework used across the Ace Electric Career Pathway Program:

  1. Instructor-Led Workshop Series Participants attend a multi-part, superintendent-focused workshop series covering the Superintendent role, job workflow, preconstruction planning, scheduling, documentation, conflict resolution, and best practices for leading large teams.
  2. Structured Job Shadowing & Mentorship Foremen work directly alongside their Superintendent mentor, completing real-world tasks such as job takeoffs, manpower planning, coordinating subcontractors, managing inspections, and tracking job progress.
  3. Supplemental Online Coursework Targeted online learning supports technical, operational, and leadership skills, reinforcing core concepts like schedule management, safety ownership, change orders, communication, and problem-solving.
  4. Monthly Career Development Coaching Using John Maxwell leadership principles, participants engage in guided coaching sessions to grow in areas such as influence, accountability, thinking strategically, and managing people at a higher level.

Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Each participant is provided with a customized IDP that outlines:

  • Required superintendent competencies
  • Hands-on tasks and shadowing expectations
  • Monthly mentor check-in topics
  • Required online and workshop modules
  • Progress milestones and jobsite evaluations

The IDP provides structure, clarity, and consistency across divisions, ensuring participants are measured against Ace Electric's Superintendent standards.
